Tibor's Car Club
Tibor's Car Club is possibly the greatest band in the history of the world. Some
people might dispute this, bringing up a certain group from the north of
England, but true Tiborites would probably laugh at such suggestions.
The original line up for TCC was formed around 1994-95, when the creative
talents of Christopher P Bartlett, Rob Ray and 'Boy' Carter were in French class
together. This atmosphere produced the first known image of the band, and in
time, I hope to share that classic picture with you. Unfortunately, logistic
troubles prevent that from happening. So, what I can do is introduce a few
members of the band, backstage staff and general entourage, plus a partial
transcript of an interview conducted in 1983.

Overheard conversation, prior to the now-
infamous Dying Swan Gig, Denver, 1987

Jimmy Hard:
It’s all about the music man. Don’t forget the
music. We’re nothing but the music.

Badger:
You’re everything but the music Jimmy.

Jimmy Hard:
What did you say Badger?

Badger:
You’re nothing but the music Jimmy.

Jimmy Hard:
That’s right man, we’re all about the music.
Bugman, hit the bass.

Interview conducted with Tibor's Car Club, Birmingham, 1983

Reporter:
So, if I may ask what seems like an obvious question, Jimmy-

Jimmy Hard:
There are no obvious questions man, obvious answers perhaps, but not
with the questions. What was the question again?

Reporter:
Well, actually, I didn’t ask it. Who is Tibor, and what are you doing in his
car club?

Jimmy Hard:
That’s a good question love, and one that deserves a full response. Well,
that’s right.

Reporter:
What’s right, Jimmy?

Jimmy Hard:
This is a band, man, the only cars involved are the ones that take us to
the gigs. It’s all about the music man.

Reporter:
So you keep saying. But I was referring to the name of the band, Tibor’s
Car Club, where does it come from?

Jimmy Hard:
Oh I see man, good question. Good name too. Takes me back a few
years, man. Back to when I wasn’t much older than you.

Reporter:
I’m twenty five, Jimmy.

Jimmy Hard:
Course you are man, course you are. Well, I must have been a bit
younger, and I can tell you man, I was a right goer in those days…

Jimmy:
See, Beethoven’s got his symphonies, Sinatra’s got his crooning, the
Beatles had, well, bad hair I suppose-

Bugman:
That and a few good tunes Jimmy.

Jimmy:
Okay, so they did. But the point I’m trying to make is, none of those guys
can match up to the awesome power of our music, man. It’s earth-
shattering. When Bugman hits that bass, the vibes start to build. They get
so hot they nearly melt the stage.

Bugman:
That did happen one time in Albuquerque, pretty hairy moment.

Jimmy:
Please Bugman, I’m trying to tell this story. So we’re on stage, the bass is
building, the lights are glowing, and then I launch into ‘She Ain’t Your Bird,
Man’ and the crowd are just blown away.

Bugman:
That did happen one time outside of Cleveland. Freak wind storm, terrible
really.

Jimmy:
Bugman, what did I just say?
