The Pan-American Gin Rummy Championship
PAGRUC

PAGRUC Rules
PAGRUC uses the well-established Wells Blue School Gin Rummy Rules
(
WEBSGRU), as formulated by the Sixth Form Class of 2000. The following
is an abridged version of those rules.

1. Number of players
  • The number of players shall be determined by the number of people
who turn up on any given day.
  • For one deck, a maximum of five players will be allowed.
  • Two decks may be used to accommodate more players, up to a
    maximum of eight.
  • The minimum number of players required for an official PAGRUC
    round is three.

2. PAGRUC points scoring
  • The number of PAGRUC points a player can score in a given round is
dependent on the number of players present.
  • The winning player will receive a number of points equal to the
number of players, with each successive player receiving one point
less down to a minimum of one.
  • Example:3 players
  • 1st receives 3 points
  • 2nd receives 2 points
  • 3rd receives 1 point

3. Dealing
  • For a game to be official, each player much deal at least once and
every player must deal the same number of times as each other, up
to a maximum of five deals per person.
  • Each player shall start the game with seven cards (Fig. 1)
  • Dealing can proceed to the left or right of the dealer as long as
    consistency is maintained.
  • At the end of each hand, the person who went first becomes the new
    dealer

4. Playing the Game
  • There is one card face up and the remainder of the deck face down
  • Players may pick the top card from either the discard pile or the top
card from the face down deck.
  • After a player has taken a card, they should discard one from their
    hand onto the discard pile.
  • Players score points by getting three or more card runs of the same
suit (5-6-7 of hearts) or by getting three of a kind (three fives).
  • When players get a run or three of a kind, they may place it face up
    on the table. (Fig. 2)
  • Once a player has cards face up in front of them, they may pick as
many cards from the face up discard pile as they wish, still
remembering to discard one from their hand.
  • Once other players have face up cards, they may add cards to
    scoring hands. (Fig. 3)
  • When a player discards the last card from their hand, the round is
    over. (Fig. 4)
  • Players count up their hands face up, and subtract cards remaining in
their hand for the round score.
  • Cards are face value, with face cards 10 points.
  • Aces can be either score one point (as in A-2-3) or 15 points (3
aces), but always -15 points when left in a player's hand.
  • The round score is recorded and the next round can be dealt.
  • The player with the highest score at the end of the game is the winner.
